David Choe was born in Los Angeles, California on April 21, 1976 to Korean immigrant parents who brought him up in the Koreatown area of Los Angeles. Graffiti artists Hex and Mear One inspired him, and Dave began painting graffiti in 1990. After the burning of his parents’ business, he dropped out of high school and left California. He returned to California at the age of 21.

The series was about the hitchhiking and wandering of David and Harry Kim, his best friend, across China and United States.
